Turning your lifestyle into a healthy one may seem near impossible but it can be easily done if approached properly. Instead of trying to make extreme changes all at once, opt to make small, simple adjustments week-by-week, month-by-month. Small and slow changes may seem boring and lame but slow progress is sustainable progress and don’t we all want a healthy lifestyle that’s sustainable rather than short lived?
To kick start your healthy lifestyle, try incorporating these three things into your everyday.
- MOVE: Whether it’s the gym after work, yoga before class, or simply a 5 minute mid-day walk, find a way to move in some way everyday. Try different ways to move so you find what you love and do that. Never stop trying new things so you’re constantly finding new ways to move and new things you love. Some days you may move more than others and that’s ok. Get excited to move. You have a body — use it!
- EAT SOMETHING GREEN: According to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 37.7% of American adults consume fruits or vegetables less than one time daily. Almost 40% don’t touch one veggie a day — that’s huge! Green vegetables are packed with vitamins, nutrients, fiber and antioxidants, thus are a crucial piece of the healthy living pie (spinach pie, that is). Eat a big salad at lunch, steam some broccoli as a side with dinner, or make yourself some kale chips. Green is good – eat up.
- SMILE: This one is the easiest of all but we often get so caught up in this thing called life that we forget to just smile. Surround yourself with people you love, listen to good music, pick up a hobby, do what makes you happy and don’t do what makes you unhappy. When you surround yourself with positivity, good things happen. So smile, it’s contagious.
