Three Simple Steps To Create Your “IT” Personal Brand

Personal Branding

More and more people are talking about the importance of personal branding, but what exactly is a personal brand and why do you need one? Allow me to break it down for you. Your personal brand is the set of expectations and emotions you personally elicit from others based on their past experiences connecting with you.

The truth is, in the hyper-connected digital world in which we live, whether or not you are purposefully creating your personal brand, you inevitably have one. What you believe, what you say, and what you do, both online and offline, all affect the way others perceive you.

Whether you want to land your dream job or launch your dream business, strategically creating a personal brand that clearly communicates who you are, what you do and why you do it, and reflects your best, most authentic self, will empower you to stand out from the crowd, connect with the right people, and ultimately style a personal and professional life you love from the inside out.

As a personal brand consultant I help women professionals and entrepreneurs clarify and communicate their “It” through bespoke personal brands that strategically connect them to their Clique of personal brand cheerleaders both online and offline. Throughout this three-part guest blog post series I’ll share my three simple steps to creating your “It” personal brand.

STEP ONE: CLARITY

The first step to creating your “It” personal brand is to clarify your “It.” Your “It” is your unique intrinsic value that only you have to offer the world. If you have no idea what makes you YOU here are a few questions to help you get started:

PASSIONS: When do you feel flow in your life? (Think about times in your life when time seized to exist and you felt pure bliss… what were you doing?)

PROWESS: What do you naturally excel at? What are you trained/educated in? What do people come to for you help with?

PURPOSE: How do you love to help others (note that this may not be the same thing others come to you for help with)? How do you want to change the world?

Now determine which “P” is your core “P.” For example, if you’re someone who values education and expertise above all, put a star next to “Prowess.” If you always follows your heart and do what you love, put a star next to “Passions.” And if you’re someone who has a deep desire to change the world, put a star next to “Purpose.” After you’ve identified your core “P,” ask yourself how you can infuse the other two “P’s” into your core “P” to clarify your “It.”

For example, when creating my personal brand as The Lovely It Girl, I identified that my core “P” is my purpose: to redefine the modern “It” girl. Infusing my marketing and branding prowess, and my passion for women empowerment and entrepreneurship into my purpose, I discovered that my “It” is to empower women to become the “It” girls they were born to be through bespoke personal brands.

I’d love to know, what’s your core “P” and how can you infuse the other two “P’s” into your core “P” to clarify your “It”?
