RdV meet Africa

Last night my friend and I decided to get a jump-start on weekend dinner reservations for Saturday night. Silly us, how dare we assume that during the holiday season in the most desirable city in the world that any restaurant would have an opening before midnight. We decided to email our reservation information to one of the hottest restaurants in the Meat Packing District called, RdV, thinking the worst response we could hear back was that there was no availability. WELL…early this morning we received an absolutely outrageous response.

At RdV you may make a table reservation request with us, which includes a table minimum. This table minimum is the amount you commit to spending on alcohol consumption. For Saturday, December 3rd for 3 people the minimum is $1000. *Please be aware that we have a doorman discretion policy. You will see the doorman upon your arrival and can only be admitted upon his approval. Once admitted, you will be shown to a table and be provided with a bottle menu to make your selections from. To give you an idea of the pricing, a bottle of Grey Goose is $450. Please be advised that the above prices do not include 20% automatic Gratuity and NY Sales Tax.

Let me give you a second to just digest the insanity and nerve of RdV.

My blood boiled as I read this and the first thought that came to my mind is, “What recession? What nerve.” Aside from the crazy numbers in this response how dare a doorman have a “discretion policy” to potential customers who decide to blow 1000 dollars MINIMUM at their restaurant? To all you rude and arrogant Door Men out their who turn men and women away because of the way they look or are dressed, I feel bad for you because we all know, you rather be inside then standing at the door!

Of course I understand that people are free to do as they please with their money but $1000 minimum on a Saturday night for alcohol is no way to spend smart money. Do you understand what you could do with 1000 dollars let alone 5 dollars? Five dollars can provide a woman in Africa for an entire year with a supply of sanitary hygiene products through the Heart: Freedom for Girls Program. By empowering women with sanitary hygiene products it will enable women to stay in school, graduate, get a job, and in return provide for their family. Now, if you are still willing to spend 1000 dollars on alcohol hear this out. Through Dream Sponsors, Inc 1000 dollars Covers the cost to provide food, clothing, mosquito nets, school supplies, and financial support for one youth or adult who commits to advance his/her education in a profession for one full year! My family has been sponsoring a little boy named Bryan. When we met Bryan he was suffering with a heart condition, did not have enough food to fuel him to go to school, he was sleeping on the floor, and did not have a warm blanket during the winter. With my families 1000-dollar donation his world has completely changed. Helping a life and helping Bryan is a better feeling than any buzz you could possibly get off of Grey Goose for $450. I don’t know about you but that’s where I will chose to spend 1000 dollars so, SORRY RdV I will not be attending Saturday night nor will I ever attend, you should really be embarrassed. And for those of you who do go to RdV hopefully you could put five dollars aside to help change a persons life!
