5 Must-Have Phone Apps for Every Millennial

Apps

It’s no secret we’re attached to our phones. 80% of Millennials sleep with their phones next to them at night.  We use them to text with friends, browse Facebook, check bank balances, navigate around town, and even occasionally (gasp!) to make calls.  And, of course, we fill them up with apps.

If you’re like me, you probably have way too many apps on your phone. I recently did a spring-cleaning on my iPhone and consolidated to the essentials.  As I was doing this, I started thinking about the must-have-apps for every Millennial.

If you’re looking to do a little spring-cleaning, too, use this list for guidance.

1.) Twitter.

This may seem like a no-brainer, but I have way too many friends who don’t take full advantage of all that Twitter has to offer.  Twitter has become an essential tool for communication in today’s business world.  Whether you realize  it or not, your next boss could be looking for you on Twitter; and the social network offers so many opportunities for both personal and professional growth.  Looking to expand your network and connect with peers?  Check out the #MillennialTalk tweet chat.

Bonus: Twitter is also a great source for keeping up with current events.

2.) Flipboard

Speaking of current events, meet my new obsession: Fliipboard.  Flipboard allows you to create your own virtual magazine, complete with current events, breaking news, human-interest pieces, and more.  It’s your news, the way you want it, and on your schedule.  I highly recommend this app! It’s a fun and easy way to stay informed, and a good way to pass the time in a waiting room or on the train.

3.) Mint

Millennials have more student debt than any generation before. That’s why careful budgeting is so crucial. Mint helps you establish realistic financial goals, and it holds you accountable.  Nearing your budget limit for the month on clothing?  Mint will kindly alert you.  It’s such an effective way to manage your money and spot (and correct) bad spending habits.

 4.) My Fitness Pal

Busy schedules are often the enemy of regular exercise and healthy eating, but our generation is lucky to have technology on its side. If we don’t make healthy living a priority now, chances are slim that we’ll adopt a healthy lifestyle later in life. My Fitness Pal offers a free tool to track calories and exercise for the day, and to set goals.  If you’re looking to live a healthier lifestyle, this app will help you stay on tack.

 5.) TaxiMagic

Networking, staying informed of current events, budgeting, and living a healthy lifestyle is important, but so is having a little fun!  Now is the time to embrace our youth.  Going out for the night and don’t have a DD?  TaxiMagic will hail a cab for you, and you can track your driver’s arrival in real-time through the app. It’s also a great tool for pre-scheduling rides to the airport or a special event.

Now it’s your turn.  How many of these apps do you have your phone?  Which apps would you add to the list?  Share your thoughts in the comments.
