Want to tap into the power of mornings? Motivational expert Louise Hay puts it best:

“How you start our day is how you live your day.”

And we know as the active millennial you are – you definitely want to make the most of your day – so WHY NOT start with a small feat that will leave a lasting impact? A simple yet meaningful morning routine to a more productive you by setting the tone right when you wake up. The world’s most successful people absolutely have, and below we’re sharing the 4 most prevalent habits their morning routines have in common!

1. Start Early

What do Steve Jobs, Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, Starbucks President Michelle Gass, Motorola CTO Padmasree Warrior, Margaret Thatcher, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Benjamin Franklin – along with many others have in common? They all wake up early – between the hours of 4am and 6am to be exact. When demands are at their lowest and willpower is at its highest – It’s the best time to gain control of your day and ultimately the biggest opportunity to make your day the way you want it!

2. Work It Out

Exercising not only wakes your body up, but it gives you a boost of energy that’ll last throughout the day. Challenging your body’s limits early in the day, sets a motivational tone to challenge yourself throughout the day. It’s no wonder how some of these successful people (Former Pepsi CEO and Chairman Steve Reinemund, President Barack Obama and Twitter Founder Evan Williams to name a few) have gotten to where they are! 3. Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Starting the day off with a healthy meal, not only makes you feel great but studies show it provides you a mental advantage. Giving your body the fuel it needs, provides you the focus, thinking power and ability to problem-solve during the day. For example Richard Branson eats a fruit salad and muesli (a granola like dish), Kelly Ripa goes for yogurt and granola and Economist David Rosenberg eats greek yogurt with berries and a handful of bran flakes. Fiber, yogurt and berries are found to be common morning meals for many successful people – but see here for more examples and how you can transform your breakfast: What 11 Highly Successful People Eat for Breakfast & 4 Things You Should Be Eating to Fuel Your Productive Day

4. Give Direction to Your Day

We all have very limited energy, so being able to sustain it for when it’s most needed is important. Take 15-20 minutes to give some clarity to the day ahead – this will set a proactive tone for the rest of the day. Not only will this prevent you from having to figure out what you need to be doing during the day, but it will focus your time and energy to making things happen! For example, Benjamin Franklin asked himself “What good shall I do today?” and Steve Jobs – “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?”. 1. Thank you for sharing this, Megha. I totally agree with you on waking up super early. It gives you an entire day of things to do that will better you and your life. Waking up at 9, 10 or even 1pm will not get you anywhere, nor will it help you with things you could and should be doing. When I was a teenager I would sleep in and not have a care in the world. But now that I’m 23, I wish I can go back and start what I’m doing now, back then.
    Thanks again, Megha!

  2. Agreed! I’m up at 5:30, mediate for 20 minutes, get sun salutations or a 2 mile jog in and eat a great breakfast. It helps me direct my energy in a positive way, get the willies out, power-up and stay driven and graceful! I also know it’s inspirational to my two boys. One day, they’ll find a go-getter too!
