3 Tips To Better Your Skin

Skin care

Skin careTeenagers are especially prone to break outs, acne, and oily skin due to hormonal changes that stimulate oil production. Although teenagers do not have to worry about wrinkles and anti aging right now; the way we treat our skin while young can impact the way our skin ages as we get older. It is extremely important to take proper care of our skin but not over do it. There are simple steps to take each day to better care for our skin and help the aging process be a breeze.

Sun Protection

It is so important to take sunscreen seriously, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, and will help reduce your chance of skin cancer. The sun’s UVA and UVB rays are very harmful. UVA rays are present throughout the entire day and are the most influential cause of premature aging and contribute to skin cancer. UVB rays are most present from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM and are most responsible for sun burns and skin cancer. Reflection from the snow, sand, and water increases exposure, a be particularly cautious for all beach and pool activities. For the best result try and find a sunscreen that has free radical protection. This may not be something that you are thinking about in our teens, but you will sure be glad you did 15 years from now. Apply sunscreen with a minimum SPF 15 or SPF 50 when you’re out in the direct sunlight. Be sure to re-apply!

Take Off Your Makeup At Night

Makeup contains chemicals that can be harmful to the skin especially if left on overnight. Sleeping in your make up can clog your pores, which makes it impossible for your skin to breathe freely. Clogged pores can be the direct cause of a dreaded breakout. Not removing your makeup can also cause the skin to age much faster than it would if treated with care. Consult an esthetician or dermatologist for what makeup remover would work best for your skin and get in the habit of taking of your make in your teen years.

Stop Before You Pop

Many teenagers find it difficult or impossible to stop squeezing, picking, and popping their pimples once they begin. Harsh manipulation to the skin can damage and permanently scar the skin creating a worse outcome than the juicy pimple itself. According Dermatologist Dr. Anolik, when you pop a pimple and force the puss to burst, you are actually ripping your skin. As you press your fingers to the skin, you are introducing dirt and bacteria from your hands onto your face and into the pimple, which could then become red and infected. Before you make the pimple worse and possibly leave yourself with a lasting scar, stop before you pop!

There are many natural ways to better your skin like eating the right foods, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and trying to reduce your stress level. If you take your skin into consideration as a teenager, your daily skin regiment will start to become simply a part of your lifestyle and not a chore.
