Styling

When I tell people I’m a wardrobe stylist, I’m usually met with a reaction of confusion and wonder. In laymen’s terms, a wardrobe stylist advices the client on the best clothing based on his/her needs and concerns. The goal is to make said client confident and comfortable in his/her skin ready to take on this tough, cruel world.

If I had a a dollar for every time a person told me, “I love your outfit, I wish I could put that together”, I chuckle. I chuckle not out of embarrassment, but because you too can look fabulous! People have this mystique around wardrobe styling. Instead, it’s a mixture of having confidence, creativity and intention in your dress. More importantly, you can make quick updates without spending tons of money. Here are three quick tips to turn your style around.

1. V is for V-neck. V-neckline tops are the most flattering for women. It gives the illusion of an elongated neck, draws attention to your décolleté and bust area. Wearing a crewneck top? Wear a necklace to create the illusion of a v-neck.

2. Put your booty in some bootcut jeans. Yes, skinny jeans aren’t going anywhere and are an easy go to jean fit, but bootcut jeans are forgiving for most body shapes. Bootcut jeans elongate your legs, while making them slimmer and sexier. Opt for a darker wash to create a slim and chic look.

3. When in doubt, belt it. No one is created equal so everyone isn’t blessed to have a perfect hourglass figure. Heck, I know I don’ So when I want to create a more pronounced waist, I just belt it. Adding a belt can create the illusion of a shapelier figure. One idea? If you’re wearing an oversized top, add a belt to create a waist and wear with bootcut jeans to balance proportions. Another idea? A belted blazer, with skinny jeans and pumps. Win.Win.
