“14 year old New York boy, Jamey Rodemeyer found dead in his closet
from an apparent suicide. Friends and family members claim that Jamey
was bullied for being openly bisexual and he didn’t show signs that he
was at the point of suicide.”
After hearing this on the radio one day in September of 2011, we knew that we could no longer stay silent. We wondered if someone would have went up to Jamey that day and been a friend, maybe something as simple
of asking how his day was, would Jamey still be here today? Then thoughts of “what if someone at our school is that close or in the state of wanting to commit suicide.”
These thoughts scared us, so we had to do something about it. We started a movement in our school that evolved into something that we were able to bring to other schools all over the United States. We want our generation to use words for good rather than evil, after all, kindness is not that hard when you really try. That simple act of kindness, care or love can really go a long way.
We encourage a movement of kindness nationwide in order to put an end to bullying and ultimately save lives. Sometimes doing the right thing, even if that requires you to step outside of your comfort zone, is more important than what others think of you.
Will you join us on our mission?
