Are You Too Busy To Follow Your Dreams?

Follow your Dreams

It is so easy to live at the mercy of busyness. I watch people accept twice as much work as they can complete in 40 hours, take sole responsibility for all house and yard work (yet barely be at home), and move to the beckon call of their spouse’s and children’s daily needs. At what point do you acknowledge that your life WILL flash by without an ounce of fulfillment if you do not stop being busy?

Absolutely nothing will change about your life until you stop doing so much stuff and actually ACT, on a consistent basis, on behalf of something that you would love.  Call it a dream or just an idea of something you would enjoy, you must decide it’s worth pursuit more than the deadline that was just dropped on your desk or washing the dishes every night.  There’s a good possibility I’m the first to be so honest with you about living the life of your dreams, so let me repeat that: You must decide the thing you would LOVE to do with your life is worth pursuit MORE than the deadline that was just dropped on your desk or washing the dishes every night.

Whether it is building a business or meeting your perfect mate, writing a book or traveling around the world volunteering, you MUST stop what you are doing and give focus, time, energy and resources on a consistent basis to pursuing that dream.

Don’t think that’s possible right now? Fine. See what happens in 20 years. But if you’re unwilling to let 20 years pass and find yourself in this EXACT same scenario (too busy to follow your dreams), then take ONE thing off your to do list every week and replace it with ONE STEP you could take in the direction of a better life today.

PS – Not sure what your “dream” is? Don’t allow yourself to NOT take action because you don’t have a well defined dream. Pick just one idea you have that you would enjoy doing, like a white water rafting trip or writing a blog, and act on that idea consistently. Dreams become well defined as you pursue more of what brings you joy.

  1. I agree that we use busy as a way to keep ourselves from actually achieving. When I hear someone tell me they are too busy to dream or too busy to pursue a passion I have to ask, “who decided what was on your plate?”

  2. As a professional student and life long learner, I want to keep doing just that, along side raising my daughter, together, learning to be fearless, writing and drawing adventures beyond imagination, while inspiring hope and faith in every corner of the globe, wherever our sails, winds, and whispers may take us.
