Millennial Hustle

It is time to embrace the hustle. Have you noticed how often the term hustle is being used today? It seems to be popping up everywhere! Since graduating college, I have heard the term hustle used more than ever before. Previously, I only heard it used in sports when someone gave extra effort or made a good play. But now, it is a term that defines how I approach each and every day. The daily hustle has become a significant part of my life, and here is why it should become a part of yours.

I love how Merriam-Webster defines hustle, “to move or work in a quick and energetic way” . It is a short, succinct definition that entails two main components: quickness and energy.

When you hustle, things will naturally start happening faster (ex: making decisions, generating more business, handling a larger workload). Hustling is all about being efficient so you can create opportunity. When we hustle, we are working smarter and are approaching our work in a quick yet efficient manner. Dare yourself to not become satisfied or complacent with the bare minimum. Seize the moment and start expecting yourself to do the unexpected.

I then encourage you to buy into the mentality that the hustle never stops because there is always going to be someone out there trying to outwork/outperform you. The more passionate and excited you become about what you are doing, the more likely you will thrive off of that energy throughout the day.

Experiment with ways to channel your own positive energy. Find what works best for you and that will allow you to stay motivated and driven throughout the day. The energy that powers my hustle comes from my desire to help others.

As a Social Media Marketing Manager, I know that the harder, smarter, and more efficiently I work; I will create a better chance to connect my company with customers who can benefit from our services to make their own business better.

So here is my 3 Main Takeaways:

  1. Hustling is contagious, you can inspire others to get up, get going, and seize every opportunity.
  2. Hustling is going to create opportunity. Good things happen to those who work hard.
  3. When we work hard, we can play hard. Maintaining a healthy life-work balance is so important.

I love the term hustle, because it can apply to so many of the things that we do. Whether it is your career, your side-job, or your hobbies, you can always be hustling. As millennials, there are opportunities everywhere to do this. Many millennials are taking on 2nd and 3rd jobs, which are now being called “side hustles.”

Uber is coining the phrase “get your side hustle on,” as part of their advertising strategy…the hustle is truly real! Who would have ever thought millennials would be working more than one job? A 9-5 has become a thing of the past and a hustle mentality is creating more opportunities for us to be successful in our careers.

When you hustle, you are naturally going to find ways become more efficient and effective. I approach each day with a clean slate and a hustle mentality that challenges me to be better than yesterday. Hard work, dedication, and drive will always be rewarded!
